Terms of Service

The terms you agree to by using Pier, the desktop app and the hosted services at onpier.dev.

Effective date: 16 July 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Pier: the Pier desktop application and the hosted services operated by the individual who runs Pier ("Pier", "we", "us"), including public tunnels at *.onpier.dev and account and billing features (together, the "Service"). You can reach us at hi@pierapp.co. By installing the app, creating an account, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. The Service

Pier is a desktop tool for managing local development: running dev servers, scripts, processes, and local services. It also has optional hosted features, namely public tunnels that expose a local port at a temporary or reserved *.onpier.dev URL, account sign-in, and paid plans. The desktop app runs on your machine. The hosted features run on our infrastructure and need a network connection.

2. Accounts

Some features require an account, created via a third-party sign-in provider (GitHub or Google). You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to your sign-in provider secure. You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live in order to create an account.

3. Acceptable use

Your use of the Service, especially public tunnels, is subject to our Acceptable Use Policy, which is part of these Terms. We may suspend, remove, or disable any tunnel, subdomain, or account that violates it, including immediately and without prior notice where we believe content is illegal, abusive, or harmful.

4. Paid plans and billing

Paid plans are billed through our payment processor, Polar. Prices, plan limits, and features are as shown at purchase and may change going forward. Paid features (such as reserved subdomains or higher concurrent-tunnel limits) are available only while your subscription is active. If it lapses, plan-gated resources may be paused or removed as the app describes. Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable. You can cancel anytime. Cancelling stops future billing and takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for.

5. Your content

You keep all rights to the code, data, and content you run locally or expose through a tunnel ("Your Content"). We don't claim ownership. You grant us only the limited rights needed to operate the Service, such as routing tunnel traffic to your machine. You're solely responsible for Your Content and for having the rights to share it.

6. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it. In short: account basics from your sign-in provider, tunnel metadata needed to route traffic, and anonymous opt-out usage analytics. We do not collect your source code, file paths, environment variables, or the contents of traffic passing through your tunnels.

7. Intellectual property

The Pier app, brand, and Service are owned by Pier's operator and protected by applicable law. These Terms grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. Open-source components are governed by their own licences.

8. Service availability and changes

The Service is provided on an "as available" basis. We may add, change, or discontinue features, and may carry out maintenance that interrupts hosted features. Tunnels are best-effort and are not intended for production hosting.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, PIER AND ITS OPERATOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR USD 50.

Some places don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be waived.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Pier's operator from claims arising out of Your Content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms or the AUP, or as needed to protect the Service or others. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (ownership, disclaimers, liability, indemnification) survive.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be posted with an updated effective date. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
